MTSU Beats Tennessee 5-4 in Extras

Daniel Palo struck out the side in the bottom of the10th to lift Middle Tennessee to a 5-4 extra-inning victory over the Tennessee Volunteers on Tuesday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Blue Raiders handed the Vols their first loss of the season, while MT picked up its first victory at UT since 1994. MT (5-3) led 4-2 before the Vols tied the game in the bottom of the 9th on a play that looked to end the game. MTSU first baseman Ethan Williams tried to apply the tag on a close play, but UT’s Zach Luther knocked the ball out of Williams’ glove. In the 10th, the Blue Raiders scored the winning run on an RBI single by Ryan Stephens, driving home Johnny Thomas, 2-for-5, who led off the inning with a double. Blue Raider pitcher Daniel Palo then struck out all three Volunteer batters in the bottom of the 10th to seal the victory for MTSU.
